Patent Awarded for VirnetX’s Unique Secure Domain Name Based Technology

ZEPHYR COVE, Nevada December 3, 2014 – VirnetX™ Holding Corporation (NYSE MKT: VHC), an Internet security software and technology company, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted a new patent for VirnetX’s network protocol for enabling secure communications using secure domain names.

VirnetX’s Secure Domain Name functionality is used to enable various types of communications that use encryption to protect data, such as encrypted communication channels or links, secure communication links and virtual private network communication links. This functionality allows various collaboration applications including audio/video, telephony and messaging applications to communicate seamlessly and securely over the Internet. Customers can obtain a license from VirnetX to use this functionality in their current or new applications. VirnetX has built Gabriel Secure Collaboration Suite, a set of applications that run on top of its Gabriel Secure Communications Platform for home and small business networks.

“This new patent reaffirms the uniqueness and exclusivity of our secure domain name technology for secure encrypted communications,” said Kendall Larsen, VirnetX CEO and President. “As Internet of Things begins to revolutionize the way we think about machines around us as “connected devices” and communications are enabled between machines talking to other machines, buildings talking to sensors, sensors talking to smart grid, smartphones talking to cars, and people talking to all of the above, we believe the use of our secure domain names to establish secure encrypted communications automatically will emerge as the superior mechanism to perform this seamlessly.”

Officially granted on December 2, 2014, U.S.: Patent no. 8,904,516, System And Method Employing An Agile Network Protocol For Secure Communications Using Secure Domain Names, is the fourteenth patent granted to VirnetX in 2014 and was awarded to three of the current members of VirnetX’s R&D team, Dr. Victor Larsen, Dr. Robert Dunham Short, III and Michael Williamson. Since 2006, VirnetX has been granted 85 patents worldwide related to Internet security. The full-text of the patent can be found here.
