Immune to DNS poisoning and network attacks using Secure Domain Names

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. – February 23, 2009 – VirnetX Holding Corporation (AMEX: VHC), a leader in secure real-time communications and collaborations technology, today announced that it has been awarded two patents #7,490,151 and #7,418,504 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patents build upon VirnetX’s intellectual property portfolio and provide the company with ownership of essential innovations that address critical communication security needs of large enterprises, managed service providers, and technology OEMs.

These patents include fundamental mechanisms for providing secure automated communications across the Internet using VirnetX’s innovative domain names and domain name service (DNS). Applications such as VoIP, instant messaging, video conferencing, file sharing, secure presence and collaboration to remote PC access, secure directory services, e-commerce and online banking—regardless of device type, software or operating system can benefit from integrating VirnetX’s secure domain names.

“Legacy DNS systems have come under attack through a variety of DNS poisoning methods, and the VirnetX secure DNS approach is resistant to these attacks,” said Kendall Larsen, president and CEO of VirnetX. “These dynamic patents expand our exclusive rights to set up and run a secure domain name service to enable automated secure connections across the Internet. This is a huge market opportunity which we plan to aggressively pursue in the months ahead.”

These patents are a part of VirnetX’s strategic portfolio that allows VirnetX to continue to set the standard for innovation in real-time communication security. The company’s patents include over 25 U.S. and foreign patents and pending applications which specifically cover the company’s unique GABRIEL Connection Technology™.
